John Hickey comes from county Offaly in Ireland, and is a structural engineer by training. He obtained his PhD at Trinity College Dublin examining the seismic performance of concentrically braced steel frame structures. He then worked with an industry partner investigating wind induced vibration in tall modular buildings. He joined the Dynamics and Vibrations Research Group at Cambridge in 2019, working to develop new methods to predict the vibration response of nonlinear structures subjected to combined random and harmonic excitation, before moving to the DigiTwin project in 2021. Aside from structural vibrations, he has a keen interest in all sport, particularly in Leeds United.
