Dan is a Research Associate at the University of Sheffield whose research focuses on the use of physics-informed machine learning within structural dynamics. The field involves the combination of physics and data-based techniques, with the aim of benefiting from the advantages of both approaches. Insight and interpretability and provided through physics, whilst flexibility and an ability to model partially understood phenomena are captured via machine learning. His work to date has primarily focussed on the development of models for predicting wave loading on offshore structures in which empirical methods and wave theory are used to assist a machine learner.
